You wake up before everyone else because it is the only quiet you will get all day.

You move through your morning already calculating who needs what and in what order. The permission slips. The conference calls. The dinner that has to be planned before you leave the house. You handle all of it without being asked, because that is just who you are.

You built a beautiful life. From the outside, it looks exactly the way you planned.

And yet there is something underneath all of it. Something you cannot quite name. That feels like you are disappearing. Not dramatically. Not all at once. Just quietly, steadily, a little more every day.

You tell yourself you are tired. But it is not just tired. It is something heavier than that. Something lonelier than that.

You stopped asking for things for yourself so long ago that you are not even sure what you want anymore.

When someone asks how you are doing, you say "good" before you have even checked. Because checking in with yourself is a luxury you have not allowed. There is always something more urgent. Something that needs you more.

You are good at being needed. You built an entire life around it.

But when was the last time you sat in a room and felt completely like yourself, without performing anything for anyone? You can barely remember.

And the worst part is the guilt. Not just for wanting more. For the way that wanting more makes you feel like you are not grateful for what you have.

You are grateful. Incredibly grateful. But gratitude and exhaustion are not opposites. You can be thankful and still be running on empty. And right now, you are running on empty.

The loss you are feeling. The identity that feels fractured. The woman you cannot quite locate anymore. It is not a character flaw.

It is not ingratitude. It is not weakness. It is what happens when a woman pours herself into role after role, and no one ever teaches her how to stay connected to herself in the process.

You were never taught how to choose yourself. You were taught to be reliable, to be dependable, to give everything to the people and the work and the responsibilities around you.

And you did. You are extraordinary at it.

But somewhere in all of that choosing, the one person who kept getting left off the list was you. Not because you did not matter. Because nobody ever showed you how to put yourself first without feeling like you were taking something from someone else.

And the conditioning that buried you was not one thing. It was four.

The Strong Black Woman who has to be the strong one, always. Familismo, the belief that family comes first, no matter what. The Marianista who self-sacrifices in silence. The eldest daughter who has been holding everything together since she was a child. Four cultural scripts that all say the same thing. Your needs come last.

Most coaches address one. This work addresses all four at once.

The missing piece was never willpower.
It was language, tools, and permission
that you were never given.

I was sitting in the car
with my husband.

For most of my life, communicating my own feelings was a struggle. I could lead a team, run a project, raise a child, hold a household together. But put me in a hard conversation about what I needed, and the words would not come.

We were not understanding each other's perspective. I could feel the overwhelm building. I could not find the words to explain what I actually meant. And in that exact moment, something inside me went quiet.

Not from giving up. From remembering.

I remembered I knew exactly who I was, right there in the hardness. I remembered I could do hard things. I remembered that if I calmed my nervous system, the words would come.

And then it happened again. In a meeting where the words would not come. With my child where the patience would not come. With a friend where the honesty would not come. The same return worked every single time. As a manager. As a leader. As a mother. As a partner.

It is the moments that feel the most difficult that I remember myself outside of the roles. That is when I find her. Not in the easy moments. In the hard ones.

The roles change.
The woman beneath them does not.

Breathing Room is built on that one truth. So that you can come back to her too. Especially in the moments that feel hardest.

Seven days to come back
to yourself.

Breathing Room is a 7-day audio-guided experience for the first generation woman who has been putting herself last, and is finally ready to stop.

It is rooted in lived experience, clinical psychology, and spirituality. It is built around the one truth that changes everything. The roles change. The woman beneath them does not.

The practice that teaches you to come back is called The Remembering. Three movements. Your body calms. You remember the woman beneath the role. The words come.

Each day takes just 5 to 8 minutes. No journaling marathons. No overwhelming homework. No guilt. No hustle. Just one small, guided moment that is entirely, unapologetically yours.

Here is what the next
7 days feel like.

Day 1

You find her again.

One simple question will land harder than you expect. When did you last feel fully like yourself, just you? Sitting with that question is where the woman beneath the roles comes back.

Day 2

You see where you have been ranking.

You will put your own name on your priorities list and notice exactly where it falls. It will sting. And it will be the first honest look you have given yourself in a long time.

Day 3

Your rest is on the calendar.

You will block your first stretch of protected time. Not earned. Not squeezed in. Already on the calendar, in your own handwriting. The block belongs to you.

Day 4

You are finally heard.

You will tell your partner what you actually need, in language that does not sound like an accusation. For maybe the first time in a long time, you will not have to translate yourself.

Day 5

You hear from your body.

You will hear what it has been holding, what it has been asking for. You have not lost yourself. She has been waiting.

Day 6

You put down what was never yours.

You will name one inherited belief about who you are supposed to be, and you will set it down. It was never yours to carry. You do not have to carry it any further.

Day 7

You write yourself a promise.

A personal permission statement to return to on the hard days. The days you feel yourself disappearing again. Written by you, for you.

You go from silencing your inner voice and putting yourself last, to finally choosing yourself. So that your needs are met. So that your relationship is in a good space. So that you can be fully present to enjoy the life you have worked so hard to build.

This is not about doing more. It is about finally giving yourself permission to receive. The rest, the support, the space you have been waiting for someone else to give you. You deserve that. Not someday. Now.

Janeica Davis

Janeica Davis, M.A.

I am a Puerto Rican Afro-Latina who grew up with very little. I am trilingual. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Spanglish, yup. I became a first-generation graduate of Columbia University, and somewhere in between all of that, I realized that self-trust is the antidote to self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and silencing your voice.

I am the fourth oldest of thirteen children. The first to graduate from high school. The first to graduate from college. The first to earn a graduate degree. I didn't have someone in my family to look up to, so I set out on a personal mission to become her.

For a long time, I didn't understand my mother. Despite not fully knowing her, I was right there alongside her. Doing chores. Running errands. Changing diapers. Making bottles. All the things. There were days she would just leave. At the time, I used to get so mad. But I get it now. She needed breathing room. And there was none of that at home with all the noise and chaos.

I built this for the women who are running on empty. For the women who have lost a sense of self. For the women who have lost their voices. For the women who avoid speaking up to avoid conflict. For the women quietly suffering in silence because they were conditioned to believe that asking for help is weakness. For the women conditioned to believe they must do everything by themselves and sacrifice themselves for their families, because that is the ultimate form of love.

I built Breathing Room for her. And I wish my mom had something like this.

I built this work, too, because of who I was when I started.

I spent thirteen years doing inner work. Through marriage. Through career changes. Through entrepreneurship. Through two late-term miscarriages and the loss of my mother during graduate school. Three traumatic experiences in one season that could have derailed me, and didn't.

I built the strength-and-resilience framework I now teach because the woman I was needed it. I know it works because it worked on me.

I am now the mother of two rainbow babies. I have been married for thirteen years. And I write from inside the marriage, and the woman, that grew with me.

The work of returning to yourself is the foundation everything else gets built on. The roles change. The woman beneath them does not.

I do not teach women how to become someone new.
I help them remember who they already are.

M.A. Clinical Psychology Columbia University Diaries of Ambitious Women® Podcast Featured · NewYork-Presbyterian

"There are a lot of experts out there. It feels like I'm listening to a friend. Each session was the right length, short, not like a whole podcast, so you can actually listen to them. And I appreciated the validation and the affirmation about the little stuff."

Dr. Minh Dang

"I've been deep in the trenches, mum-ing and wife-ing way more than I've been woman-ing. The very first day came straight for me. I genuinely could not answer the question 'when did you last feel fully like yourself, just you.' So many of us don't even realize we've disappeared into taking care of everyone else until someone asks a question simple enough to expose it. The anger and resentment part, whew. You can only abandon yourself for so long before something in you starts screaming for attention. I love how thorough and well thought-out it is. I can tell you put your heart into it. It feels thoughtful in a way that can only come from someone who actually understands what this season does to woman."

I barely have 5 minutes. Will this actually work for me?

That is exactly who this was built for. Each audio is 5 to 8 minutes. You can do it in the car, during a lunch break, after bedtime. No perfect conditions required.

What if I don't have a printer?

You do not need one. The worksheets are designed so you can write your responses in a journal, in your notes app, or anywhere that works for you. The point is the answers, not the paper.

Is this therapy?

No, and it does not need to be. Breathing Room is a guided self-development experience rooted in clinical psychology. It is designed to give you tools, language, and clarity. If you are in a mental health crisis, please seek professional support.

What if I fall behind?

You go at your own pace. There is no schedule to keep, no deadlines, no failing. You have lifetime access. Come back whenever you need it.

I have tried things like this before and nothing has stuck.

Most programs ask you to overhaul your life. Breathing Room asks for one small moment a day. It is designed to be simple enough to actually do, and meaningful enough to actually move you.

She is still in there.
She has been waiting for you.

You did not land on this page by accident. Something in you is ready. Something in you has been ready for a long time, and has just been waiting for the right words, the right container, the right moment to say yes to yourself.

The woman you were before all the responsibilities and the roles and the invisible labor took over, she did not leave. She got quiet. She learned how to wait. She is still in there, underneath all of it, patient and ready.

Every day you stay in the same pattern is another day she waits. Not because you are failing her. Because nobody gave you the tools to go get her. Breathing Room is those tools.

P.S. If you scrolled to the bottom first, here is what you need to know. Breathing Room is a 7-day audio experience, 5 to 8 minutes a day, for the first generation woman who has lost herself in the process of building her life. It is $27, one time, no subscriptions, backed by a full 7-day guarantee. Get access here.

P.P.S. The guarantee is real. Email iamjaneica@gmail.com within 7 days of purchase if you want a refund. I will send it with no questions and no hard feelings. I built this to help women, not to take money from women who do not feel helped.

P.P.P.S. The cost of not doing this is not $27. The cost of not doing this is another month, another season, another year of putting yourself last and wondering why you feel so far from yourself. You already know what that costs.
